About the Fell & Rock Climbing Club
The Fell & Rock Climbing Club was founded in 1906 to “encourage the pursuits of fell walking and rock climbing, particularly in the English Lake District.”
Today it has around 1,100 members, issues an extensive list of meets based both in the UK and abroad, owns seven huts (five in the Lake District and two in Scotland) and publishes a comprehensive series of Lake District climbing guides and other related books.
Unusually for a club founded over a century ago, membership has always been open to women as well as men and it is also notable that both fell walkers and climbers are eligible to apply’

Joining the already established Expedition and Access and Conservation Grants, the committee has recently established a new grant fund to support members pursuing higher level training. The fund will support personal development beyond the club’s membership criteria and higher level Mountain Training Awards/ the British Mountain Guide scheme. Following the retirement of Anne Daykin, we need a volunteer to deal with selling bed spaces in our huts at times when they would otherwise be unused.
